King Charles III is soon to be crowned as the British monarch and recently celebrated his first Commonwealth Day as the sovereign. He was accompanied by his family members, including his wife Queen Consort Camilla, son Prince William, daughter-in-law Princess Kate, and siblings Prince Edward and Princess Anne, during the Commonwealth Day service held at Westminster Abbey on Monday. Upon arrival for the Commonwealth Day service, the royal family was greeted by a Maori group outside before heading inside. Prince William and Princess Kate attended the event as the Prince and Princess of Wales for the first time, both wearing navy ensembles. Kate paid tribute to William’s parents by donning a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings previously worn by Princess Diana, and the Prince of Wales feathers brooch, a gift from Charles. It’s worth noting that Charles held the title of Prince of Wales before becoming king.

Prince William and Princess Kate dressed elegantly for their first Commonwealth Day as the Prince and Princess of Wales. Despite the windy weather, Kate maintained her composure while wearing a peplum jacket and skirt with white embroidery, and she held her hat tightly to her head. William opted for a navy suit and blue tie, keeping it simple yet stylish.

During the event, King Charles III delivered a speech in which he paid tribute to his “beloved mother,” Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September. Charles spoke of drawing inspiration from the Queen’s example and the extraordinary people he has met during his many years of service to the Commonwealth.

During his speech at the Commonwealth Day service, King Charles III spoke about the Charter of the Commonwealth’s tenth anniversary, focusing on values such as “peace and justice; tolerance, respect and solidarity; care for our environment, and for the most vulnerable among us.” He emphasized that these values are not just ideals but require action to make a practical difference in the lives of the 2.6 billion people living in the Commonwealth.

As the Commonwealth represents a third of the world’s population, King Charles expressed his hope to address critical issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, youth opportunity and education, global health, and economic cooperation through collaborative efforts among fellow countries. He believes that the Commonwealth has a unique opportunity and responsibility to create a durable future that offers prosperity in harmony with nature and secures the planet for future generations.

Charles emphasized the importance of the Commonwealth in creating a sustainable future for the planet in his speech, stating that the organization has a significant opportunity and responsibility to achieve this goal. He called for collaborative efforts from all member countries to address crucial issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, global health, economic cooperation, and youth opportunity and education. Charles urged the Commonwealth to be a force for positive change in pursuit of the global common good and to work together tirelessly to create a prosperous and harmonious world for future generations.
